About howmuchpay.co.uk
A free, straightforward UK salary calculator built to help employees, job seekers and employers understand take-home pay for the 2026/27 tax year.
What this site does
howmuchpay.co.uk calculates your take-home pay after all PAYE deductions for the current UK tax year. Enter your gross salary and the calculator instantly shows your net income after:
- Income tax (England, Wales, Northern Ireland or Scottish rates)
- Employee National Insurance contributions
- Student loan repayments (Plan 1, 2, 4, 5 and Postgraduate)
- Pension contributions (relief at source or salary sacrifice)
The site also includes a dedicated Scottish tax calculator, a student loan repayment calculator, an employer NI calculator, and a full guide to 2026/27 tax rates.
Who this is for
This tool is designed for employed workers in the United Kingdom who are paid through PAYE. It is particularly useful when:
- Evaluating a job offer and wanting to know the real take-home salary, not just the gross figure
- Understanding how a pay rise affects your monthly income after tax
- Checking whether a salary sacrifice pension scheme is worth opting into
- Comparing salaries across different UK regions, given Scotland's different income tax rates
- Working out how much student loan you will repay each month
- Budgeting for a new hire and understanding the total cost of employment including employer NI
Accuracy and limitations
All calculations use confirmed HMRC rates and thresholds for the 2026/27 tax year. The calculator gives accurate results for the majority of standard PAYE employees with:
- A standard 1257L tax code (the £12,570 personal allowance)
- A single employment (one job)
- No adjustments for benefits in kind or unpaid tax from previous years
Results may differ from your actual payslip if you have a non-standard tax code, receive benefits in kind, have more than one job, or have other income sources. The calculator is provided as a guide and should not be taken as financial or tax advice. For questions about your specific tax position, contact HMRC or a qualified tax adviser.
Updates
The calculator is updated at the start of each new tax year (6 April) to reflect the latest HMRC rates. The current version covers the 2026/27 tax year. Historical tax year data is not available on this site.
Privacy
